Karen Parker, J. D. is the President and Co-founder of the Association
of Humanitarian Lawyer. Ms. Parker resides in San Francisco,
CA. She is well know and respected in the halls of the United
Nations. Ms. Parker has addressed many sessions in the United

Elias Khoury is a Geneva-based attorney who has represented
the Union of Arab Jurists at the United Nations for many years,
and who has co-sponsored with AHL numerous seminars and scholarly
programs in Geneva.
Grace Shimizu, J. D.
(United States) Operating Board Member
Grace Shimizu, J.D., became a board member in 2004 after many
years of assisting the Association of Humanitarian Lawyers. She
was born in the United States. Ms. Shimizu's father was a Japanese
national residing in Peru who was seized by the United States
and incarcerated in a U.S. internment camp during WWII for the
purpose of hostage exchange. She is a founding member and director
of the Japanese Peruvian Oral History Project.
K. Sivapalan, Solicitor/Barrister

Board Member
K. Sivapalan is a Sri Lankan based attorney, also licensed in
the UK and Australia. He is currently Vice-Chair of the Northeast
Secretariat on Human Rights; He is also active in the Sri Lankan
Bar Association in Trincomalee. "Siva" has attended
UN sessions and meeting in Geneva, and has consulted with the
office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights. At the United
Nations, he represents Inernational Service for Human Rights.
Jean Flamme, Advokaat (Belgium) Advisory

J ean Flamme is a Ghent Based attorney active in the Flemish Bar.
He has been defense counsel in the International Tribunal for
Rwanda, and with colleagues in Belgium was an initiator of Belgian-based
"avocats sans frontiers ( Lawyers without Borders)."
Ilyas Khan, Barrister/Judge (United Kingdom) Operating Board Member
Ilyas Khan, Barrister/Judge, has been a board member for several
years. Mr. Khan is a Kenyan-born barrister in the UK. He originally
practiced immigration law, he was promoted to a judge, and now
is a supervising judge in the immigration courts in London.
Mr. Khan has much experience at the United Nations human rights
forums, focusing especially on religious intolerance -- one
of AHL's key issues.
Bart Bernard, Barrister (Netherlands) Advisory
Board Member
Bart Bernard is a Netherlands-based barrister who has represented
International Educational Development for nearly 10 years. He
is a founder and director of Mena Muria Foundation (for human
rights in the Moluccas) and has presented many individual and
group cases to the UN special procedures.
Majid Tramboo-Barrister
(United Kingdom) Advisory Board Member
A committed human rights activist, Barrister Tramboo advocates
causes for all people without distinction of any kind. Member
of the International Human Rights Association of American Minorities
directorate he is IHRAAM’ s Representative at the UN Commission
on Human Rights. Born Kashmiri, Barrister Tramboo has long championed
